Call for Applications: Postdoctoral researcher to join the ERC DEMOSERIES project

Sandra Laugier, Professor of Philosophy at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne is a recipient of an ERC Advanced Grant. Her project "DEMOSERIES, Shaping Democratic Spaces: Security and TV Series" has been selected by the ERC for funding of €2.2 million.
DEMOSERIES (2020-2024) aims to study the "soft power" of TV series and show how they constitute new resources for the moral education, creativity, and perfectibility of their audiences; how they contribute to democratic conversation and public policies. Television series are increasingly recognized as an object of research. However, their aesthetic potential for visualising ethical issues and developing a collective inquiry into democratic values has not yet been appreciated even though they can play a crucial role in the creation of shareable values.
Job Description :
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to work packages 1, 3, and 4 of the DEMOSERIES programme and will be responsible for analysing video data and studying web analytics platforms. They will also work with the Demoseries’ team on maintaining and developing the program’s website and will work on setting up the “Proof of Concept” project.
Requirements:
- Applicants should hold a PhD in the humanities or social sciences and have an interest in media studies and television.
- Candidates must have expertise in the fields of digital technologies, digital media, and digital data science.
- A capacity to work in a multidisciplinary team, to coordinate seminars, events, publications.
- Experience in media analysis and communication will be considered as an asset.
- Good skills in written and spoken English and French are expected.
